Belt and Road countries sign 300 cultural exchanges

Dunhuang, Gansu province: China has signed over 300 cooperation agreements with other governments on the mutual establishment of cultural centres in countries along the Belt and Road network.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Silk Road International Cultural Expo here on Wednesday, Minister of Culture of the People's Republic of China, Mr Luo Shugang, said 124 delegates from 51 countries and three international organisations were attending the expo.

“Today, the fact that we inherit the spirit of the ancient Silk Road and discuss the construction of the Belt and Road together is a continuation of a historical trend and the right choice for the future,” the minister said.

Mr Luo Shugang also said that, as President Xi Jinping put it, each era has its own theme and every generation has its own mission. The theme of this era is win-win cooperation.

President Xi said we are willing to work with all of you together, move forward hand in hand, deepen cooperation and jointly promote the creation of the glory of the Silk Road civilisation and the hundreds of flowers seeking to blossom through world cultures and towards a better future together.

The Silk Road Dunhuang International Cultural Expo is an international event themed with exchanges concerning Silk Road culture.

China is willing to join hands with everyone present to carry out extensive cooperation in culture, economics and trade, tourism and other sectors.

Build a bridge for the integration of the Silk Road, add fuel to the joint development of the countries along the Silk Road and cement the foundation of public will for the construction of the Belt and Road, and build a solid social foundation.

China has set up 11 Chinese cultural centres in the countries along the Belt and Road and another 13 will be established by 2020.

In 2017, the Ministry of Culture held more than 300 spring festival events such as performances, exhibitions, and fairs in 51 countries along the Belt and Road.

Since 2014, there have been three international cultural exchange activities including the Xi'an Silk Road International Arts Festival, Quanzhou Maritime Silk Road International Arts Festival, and this year the Silk Road Dunhuang International Cultural Expo held in Gansu province on September 20.

The first Silk Road Dunhuang International Cultural expo took place last September when a series of achievements was made: the Dunhuang Declaration was drawn up and circulated and a consensus in terms of cultural exchanges and cooperation was reached.

A series of cooperation framework agreements were also formed and a number of exchanges and dialogues as well as economic and trade activities were carried out.
