Borikhamxay to develop Tad Tontaen waterfall

Borikhamxay province will develop Tad Tontaen waterfall as a natural tourism site to attract more visitors after the Covid-19 pandemic and to upgrade facilities at the site.
The project is also aimed at increasing the income of the local people so that they can improve their lives.
A feasibility study for the project began recently, after an agreement was signed by officials of Borikhamxay province and the Somchanh Construction Company Limited last week.

The feasibility study will focus on economic and technical factors and the impact of the project on natural resources and people living near the site.
“We are interested in developing Tad Tontaen waterfall as we found that the facilities there can be upgraded to attract more visitors. It is also close to Tad Tontaen waterfall, which we developed as a natural tourism site earlier,” said the Director of Somchanh Construction Company Limited, Mr Somsack Xayyavong.
Tad Tontaen waterfall is located in Phonmongkhoun village of Borikhan district of Borikhamxay, and it is also close to the Phou Ngou national forest.
Borikhamxay has several stunning waterfalls and other places of interest to tourists, including Tad Xay, Tad Leak, Tad Mangkon, Tad Nampa, Tad Huay Kou, Tad Thon, Tad Khoun, Tad Tek, Tad Kai, the Buddha footprint in Sanaen cave, and Vat Phrabath temple.
Visitors can enjoy local dishes such as jeo pa bam (fermented fish with chilli sauce), chicken soup and phan seen (grilled pork or beef with chilli and herbs wrapped in pomelo leaves).
The province has colourful festivals such as the Boun Phabath Phonesan Stupa festival, which is the biggest festival of the province and is celebrated in January.
The province has 117 officially designated tourist sites, of which 101 are nature-based, 13 are of cultural interest, and three are historical, according to Borikhamxay’s statistics from this year.
Borikhamxay province, located just south of Vientiane in central Laos, is a centre for eco-tourism activities with its two national protected areas and extensive system of wetlands. The journey from Ban Khoun Kham to Lak Sao on Route 8 offers the spectacular scenery of karst mountain landscapes and is considered to be one of the most impressive passages in the country, according to the Tourism Development Department.
