Govt awards friendship medal to Thai ambassador for outstanding support
The government has presented a Friendship Medal to the Thai ambassador to Laos for his outstanding contribution to strengthening various fields of cooperation between Laos and Thailand.
The medal was presented on Wednesday by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Saleumxay Kommasith who on behalf of the government bid farewell to Ambassador Damrong Kraikruan at the end of his mission in Laos.
Mr Saleumxay congratulated Ambassador Damrong on the success of his diplomatic mission in Laos since he presented his credentials in November 2019. Over the years, bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries have been greatly enhanced and achieved real success. This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Laos-Thailand diplomatic relations. Both nations have regularly exchanged visits by government delegations at different levels in the aim to promote cooperation mechanisms in various fields.
Lao Foreign Minister Saleumxay, on behalf of the government, also expressed thanks to the Thai ambassador for actively contributing to strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Laos and Thailand throughout his diplomatic mission, which included promoting infrastructure development for transportation links, education, health and agriculture, with many projects completed or in progress. In particular, during the COVID-19 outbreak, the ambassador mobilised materials and in-depth assistance from the public and private sectors of Thailand to assist Laos in combating and controlling the spread of the disease.
On the occasion of the medal presentation ceremony, Ambassador Damrong expressed thanks for the support from the government and people of Laos, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during his mission in Laos. He also committed to continuing the further strengthening and enhancing of friendship and cooperation ties between Thailand and Laos.
