Int’l organisations help Savannakhet children get new school building
More than 100 children of Dong Nakharm village in Atsphangthong district, Savannakhet province have a new school to study in - thanks to Acronis Cyber Foundation that provided aid for its construction.
The Acronis Cyber Foundation partnered with Child’s Dream Foundation and handed over the school to the local authorities on Tuesday.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice President for Global Cloud and Field Marketing of Acronis, Mr Hannes Migga-Vierke, and the Director of Finance and Operations of Child’s Dream Foundation, Ms Christin Reinhardt-Riedinger, along with officials of the provincial and district education and sports sector, village authorities, teachers and students.
School construction began in February and ended in June this year with the new facilities comprising five classrooms with toilets and a school office, according to the village authorities.
The school was built at the cost of 400 million kip with 350 million kip through donations from Acronis Cyber Foundation. The remainder, mostly in kind, was donated by villagers.
The new facilities can hold classes through every season, the school’s Director, Mr Outhone Sayasith said, adding that before, classes had to be suspended during the rainy season.
“Now that the construction of the new classrooms is over, children are eager to come to school,” he said.
However, the school still needs more assistance in buying educational tools, especially textbooks and sporting equipment.
“We at Acronis Foundation believe education should be given the highest value and try to do everything possible to spread knowledge around the world. Acronis believes that every evil on earth comes from a lack of knowledge, that is why we are honoured to have taken part in the school construction project in Dong NaKharm village,” Mr Hannes said. “We will try and contribute further to children’s education by funding the construction of buildings around the world. We cannot be regarded as truly successful if we are unable to benefit mankind,” he added.
During the event, the foundation also handed over educational tools and sports equipment to children.
