President gives development advice in Savannakhet

President Bounnhang Vorachit has impressed upon authorities in Xepon and Thapangthong districts of Savannakhet province the need to tackle antisocial behaviour, such as drug abuse, in order to maintain social order.
Mr Bounnhang stressed this point when meeting with local authorities last weekend.

He and his delegation visited Thapangthong district on Saturday, and Xepon district on Sunday.
Thapangthong district Governor Mr Phouvong Ketkeophomphone and Xepon district Governor Mr Vongxay Xayachak said their districts enjoyed political stability, peace and order in general. Their economies had developed and were stable, and livelihoods had improved.
Nevertheless, President Bounnhang said it was important that the two districts take steps to tackle drug abuse.
He also encouraged authorities to increase commercial agriculture, saying that the related sectors as well as district offices of agriculture and forestry should regularly provide technical assistance to villagers.
During their tour of Xepon district, President Bounnhang and his delegation visited a factory run by Sun Paper Holding Laos Co., Ltd.
In talks with the company’s president and employees, Mr Bounnhang said it was necessary to strengthen relations with local authorities and people, and to have regular and systematic coordination with related sectors.
Concerning the concession, he said that any expansion must comply with the law and aim to develop infrastructure in the targeted villages of Kaengkew, Manchi, and Kaenghuapa. President Bounnhang said the company should contribute to the development of infrastructure in the district and create jobs for local people.
In Thapangthong district, President Bounnhang visited an under-construction pavilion at the Xe Salalong irrigation facility, which will be a permanent site during boat racing festivals.
He also visited the under-construction Xe Salalong Agriculture Technical Centre, where he met with residents of May Phosy village to learn about their current situation and listen to their suggestions.
The President encouraged the villagers to grow more dry season rice.
