Students get lessons on study opportunities in Japan
More and more students are considering studying in Japan and are interested in obtaining information on ways to achieve this.
The Study in Japan Fair 2019 held at the National University of Laos (NUOL) in Vientiane on Wednesday provided an opportunity for students to learn about Japanese universities and their study programmes.
The event benefitted university lecturers, educators, members of the public and students wanting to enrol in courses in Japan.
Those who attended learnt about the education system in Japan, especially in relation to the universities represented at the fair.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Head of the Foreign Affairs Office at NUOL, Mr Phouvong Phommakong, said that since joining the Asean Economic Community in 2015, Laos has taken part in many regional activities. Further integration in the bloc means that education is a top development priority.
In the past, the National University of Laos has received techical assistance and scholarships from Japan.
The National University of Laos has signed MOUs with 14 Japanese universities and institutes on educational exchange, research activities, exchange of lecturers, cultural exchange and other activities involving Lao and Japanese students, Mr Phouvong said.
He hoped that through the fair cooperation would be maintained in the future to raise the standard of education in Laos.
It would also strengthen the bond of friendship between Lao and Japanese institutions and their students.
The number of Lao people graduating from academic institutions in Japan is increasing.
Representatives of Japanese universities have met with NUOL staff to plan for increased enrolment of Lao students.
Meanwhile Japanese trade and investment in Laos has skyrocketed and the future prospects look strong.
The fair was hosted and organised by NUOL, the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Embassy of Japan, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Japan Student Services Organisation, and the Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute.
The Japanese universities represented included the prestigious Ritsummeikan Asia Pacific and Okayama, which both provided useful information.
