Weathermen predict ongoing cold snap
Meteorologists are warning the country of an ongoing dip in temperatures as well as heavy fogs and winds in northern regions from December 4-8.
The Meteorology and Hydrology Department warns that a cold front is spreading across the country with temperatures expected to drop as low as 5-7C in northern regions.
Colder temperatures along with fog patches in the morning are predicted in Xaysomboun province as well the southern Bolaven Plateau, while temperatures could drop by 3-5C with fog and strong winds in central and southern regions.
In the latest forecast for December 4-8, the department urged the public to be alert to the possibility of sudden weather changes and to pay attention for additional forecasts.
In the north, there will be cooler overnight temperatures and morning fog in Huaphan and Xieng Khuang provinces. Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 5-7C up to maximums from 18-20C.
The temperature could drop by 6-8C along with early morning fog in Oudomxay province, and Sing and Viengphoukha districts of Luang Namtha province. Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 7-9C with maximums from 23-25C.
In the central region, the possibility of gusty winds at times in Savannakhet province will see expected minimum temperatures of 10-12C while the maximums will range from 23-25C.
There will be morning fog in Vientiane temperatures could drop a further 3-4C overnight ranging from 13-30C and the possibility of wind gusts at times.
Cold nights and early morning fog, and the possibility of wind are predicted in Xaysomboun province, the Km 20 area and Viengthong district of Borikhamxay province, and in Nakai district of Khammuan province. Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 4-6C up to maximums from 19-21C.
On the Bolaven Plateau, temperatures could drop by 5-7C overnight with morning minimums of 4-6C forecast along with fog and strong winds, while maximum temperatures are expected to hit 20-22C.
In the south, overnight cold temperatures, light morning fog and the possibility of winds in some areas will see temperatures range from 14-28C.
