Workshop upgrading study of microprocessors in robot design
Lecturers and students from the National University of Laos (NUOL) and colleges in Vientiane and Luang Prabang province are attending a workshop on the use of microprocessors in robot design.
Lecturers and students will use their newly acquired knowledge and skills to develop and perfect their design leading up to the 15th Robot Contest in March next year.
The two-day workshop organised by the Faculty of Engineering at NUOL is held every year before the Robot Contest.
The opening ceremony on Thursday was attended by Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Dr Khamphouy Soutthisombath, President of the Association for Advanced Education in Asia (AAEA), Prof Dr Toshio Lijima, Director of AAEA, Dr Noriyuki Komine, and robot design expert Mr Tadao Hatakeyama.
“We would like to encourage lecturers and students to discuss designs with each other to further develop their skills in robotics,” Dr Khamphouy said.
During the ceremony, Dr Lijima presented microprocessor components to Dr Khamphouy, which will be distributed to faculties and colleges, allowing lecturers and students to take advantage of the latest technology in robotics design.
Workshop participants are being instructed on how to best utilise microprocessors by Mr Hatakeyama.
Dr Lijima said AAEA would like to support their work in education, research and teaching to augment their past efforts in developing robotics in Asean countries.
He hoped that lecturers and students would apply their newfound knowledge to improve entries in the upcoming competition.
The Electronics Team from the Faculty of Engineering won last year’s 14th Robot Contest. The event has been held in Vientiane since 2002.
