National Assembly approves leadership reshuffle
The National Assembly Standing Committee approved a series of senior leadership transfers and appointments during an extraordinary session convened in Vientiane from January 17-19.
Central Party Committee member and National Assembly Standing Committee member, Ms Amphaivone Lombounpheng, announced the results on January 19.
The session considered proposals dated January 16, 2026, submitted by the President and the Prime Minister on the transfer and appointment of senior officials to new positions, as well as a proposal on suspension with pension benefits for a government member.
Under the President’s proposal, the session approved the transfer of Central Party Committee member and Head of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor’s Office, Mr Xayxana Khotphouthone, to a new post in Khammuan province.
It also approved the appointment of Central Party Committee member and Deputy Minister of Public Security, Brigadier General Lyvong Laoly, as Head of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor’s Office.
Following a recommendation by the Prime Minister, the session approved the transfer of Central Party Politburo member and Secretariat member of the 12th Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security, General Vilay Lakhamfong, to a new position in the Party Central Committee’s Office.
The session also approved the transfer of Central Party Politburo member and President of the State Inspection and Anti-Corruption Authority, Mr Khamphanh Phommathat, to a new post.
Another transfer approved was that of Central Party Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister, Prof. Dr Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, to a new position at the Lao Front for National Development.
In addition, the session approved the appointment of Central Party Politburo member and Secretariat member of the 12th Party Central Committee, Mr Vanxay Phongsavanh, as President of the State Inspection and Anti-Corruption Authority.
The appointment of Secretariat member of the 12th Party Central Committee, Lieutenant General Vanthong Kongmany, as Minister of Public Security was also approved.
In addition, the session unanimously approved the Prime Minister’s proposal on the suspension with pension benefits of Central Party Committee member and Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr Khamjane Vongphosy.
