Phu Bia Mining supports Lao families visiting Vientiane as their children undergo cleft palate surgery

Phu Bia Mining is proud to announce its continued support for families from across Laos who have travelled to Vientiane for life-changing treatment for their children affected by cleft palates.

The families are staying at Mahosot Hospital to receive free treatment, courtesy of the Dutch charity Bridge the Gap, and Phu Bia Mining is helping ease their journey with the donation of essential care packages.
These care packages, containing food, toiletries and other essentials, are intended to support the families during their stay in Vientiane while their children undergo surgery and recovery. This initiative reflects Phu Bia Mining’s commitment to supporting local communities and improving the well-being of the people of Laos.
As part of this meaningful event, players and staff from Young Elephants FC, a football club sponsored by Phu Bia Mining, paid a surprise visit to the hospital to engage with the youngsters.
The football stars, including both national team and international players, met the children and their families, handing out gifts including signed footballs, team bags, and other memorabilia, while taking photos with the children and showing off their football skills - creating an unforgettable experience for the young patients.
The children undergoing surgery are receiving a truly life-changing moment. The cleft palate procedure, which will allow them to live free from the disfiguring condition that has affected their ability to speak, eat and interact with others, is made possible by Bridge the Gap’s dedicated team of medical professionals who donate their time for free.
For these children, the surgery not only restores their appearance but also provides a more confident future full of possibilities.
“This event is about more than just providing medical treatment; it’s about offering hope and a brighter future,” said Managing Director & CEO of PanAust, Daniel Zheng.
“We are proud to be part of this life-changing event for these children and their families. Our support goes beyond the care packages, and we are honoured to support this Bridge the Gap initiative that will make a lasting, positive, transformative difference to these children’s lives.”
“Our close relationship with the national title holders, Young Elephants FC, initiated this thoughtful gesture from them and helped raise the children’s spirits during these few challenging but ultimately positive days.”
The collaboration with Young Elephants FC, a club that has long been committed to community outreach and youth development, brings added joy to the event. The footballers’ engagement with the children will inspire them and provide an opportunity for cultural exchange and shared excitement, bridging the gap between the sports world and healthcare efforts.
Phu Bia Mining Chairman Chanpheng Bounnaphol, added: “Phu Bia Mining’s partnership with Bridge the Gap’s in this project highlights the power of collaboration between local businesses, international charities, and leading sports teams to make a tangible impact in the lives of those who need it most. I’m proud to be part of a company that remains dedicated to improving the lives of Lao people from all over the country.”
This event represents a truly heartwarming collaboration, combining medical support, community involvement, and sportsmanship to create lasting memories for the families and most importantly, to give these Lao children a brighter future.
