Strengthening Korea-Laos Educational Cooperation through K-Culture, K-Beauty, K-Food & Korean Language Education.
Sahmyook Health University (President: Park Joo-Hee) successfully completed its major-based overseas volunteer programme in Vientiane, Laos, from May 18 to 25, 2026. The delegation consisted of 16 students from the Medical AI Convergence Department, accompanied by three faculty supervisors: Professor Kim Kyoung-Mok, Pastor Kang Byeong-jin, and Researcher Kim Su-yeon.
The programme was conducted under the auspices of the SHU VOLUNTEER Major-Based Overseas Service Program, with support from the Ministry of Education, the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF), and the Association for the Advancement of College Innovation Support Projects (CK).

The volunteer team conducted a wide range of educational and cultural exchange activities for students at the National University of Laos (NUoL), including Korean language instruction, K-Culture, K-Food, and K-Beauty experience sessions, fostering mutual understanding and cultural exchange between the two nations.
In addition, the team visited Panya Savanh International School, where they engaged 135 local students in interactive, play-based activities centered on Korean culture, bringing warmth and joy to the local community.
A notable highlight of this year’s programme was the participation of “ONLYTWO,” a Lao student currently enrolled in the Global Convergence Department at Sahmyook Health University. ONLYTWO played a pivotal role not only as an interpreter between Korean and Lao but also in building genuine rapport between the Korean volunteers and local Lao students, drawing on a deep understanding of both cultures.
Director Kouanphet of the National University of Laos provided exceptional support and dedication to ensure the smooth operation of the entire programme. His active cooperation was instrumental in making the volunteer activities more comprehensive and impactful.
Through this programme, a significant number of Lao students expressed increased interest in pursuing higher education and career opportunities in South Korea. This outcome is expected to contribute substantially to Sahmyook Health University’s global talent recruitment strategy and the continued strengthening of Korea–Laos educational cooperation.
“This volunteer programme provided our students with an invaluable opportunity to apply their professional expertise on an international stage and develop a genuine global perspective. We plan to continue expanding our educational partnerships with Laos and other Southeast Asian nations in the future,” said Professor Kim Kyoung-Mok, Supervising Faculty Member of the Department of Medical AI Convergence at Sahmyook Health University.
