Saemaul Foundation training boosts community development efforts

Community development efforts in Laos received a boost through a Saemaul Foundation training programme held at the Lao Plaza Hotel on June 11.
The day-long event, conducted by the Saemaul Foundation Laos Office, brought together 106 participants, including residents of Nonxay, Donyeng and Phao villages in Paknguem district, officials from the Vientiane Department of Agriculture and Environment, and Paknguem district authorities.
The training focused on instilling the principles of diligence, self-help and cooperation.
The Country Director of the Saemaul Foundation Laos Office, Ms Moon Sunghye, led a session on “Practicing the Spirit of the Saemaul Movement”, which highlighted the vital role of active participation by both village leaders and residents in community development.
A professor from the Faculty of Social Sciences at the National University of Laos, Ms Engsone Sisomphone, addressed the intersection of environmental protection and sustainable development, urging the participants to adopt long-term sustainable practices.
The Chairman of the Paknguem District Administrative Committee, Mr Kongmee Seesamout, provided insights into the progress of Saemaul activities in the area. He emphasised that strong governance, combined with dedicated community leadership, is essential for achieving sustainable rural development.
The programme concluded with a collaborative discussion session led by Mr Kongmee and Ms Moon. Participants exchanged experiences and practical strategies to address local development challenges through community-driven initiatives, reinforcing the partnership between the foundation, government officials and local residents.
