Heavy rain destroys house, damage farmland and lifestock in provinces
Torrential rain caused a house in Namkhien village, Hom district, Xaysomboun province, to collapse in the early hours of Monday morning, with the damage estimated at about 180 million kip.
The two-storey house, measuring 12x15 metres, belonged to a man named Mr Somnith and was located next to Nam Yen Creek.
In addition to structural damage, several valuable items inside the house were destroyed or damaged, including a motorcycle, a refrigerator, a freezer, kitchenware, rice supplies, and clothing.
Elsewhere, in Xayabouly province, Nguen, Xienghon and Khop districts suffered from flooding after heavy rain.
About 90 hectares of farmland and livestock in 17 villages of Nguen district were affected by the floods, together with more than 300 households in nine villages of Xienghon district.
In Khob district, more than 1,300 households in 10 villages were affected.
Four houses were washed away and one person was reported as missing.
Fourteen offices, four schools, roads and bridges were flooded, while water supplies and telecommunication links were cut.
Provincial authorities are helping villagers to clean their houses and will assess the extent of the damage, a provincial official said.
