Inje University marks 7 years of nursing education excellence in Laos

The Leading University Project for International Cooperation (LAIN-LUPIC) team at Inje University (President Minhyeon Jeon) held the “11th LAIN-LUPIC Workshop” from July 8 to 10 at the Crowne Plaza Vientiane in Laos, to strengthen nursing education capacity.
This three-day workshop was attended by about 30 faculty members from the Faculty of Nursing Sciences (FoNS) at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) in Laos.
This is the 11th in a series of regular workshops jointly conducted by Inje University and UHS since 2020, marking the 7th year of their partnership. It was held under the theme “Strengthening Quality in Nursing Education: Integrating Teaching, Assessment, and Research”.
On the first day, Vice President for Medical and Pharmaceutical Affairs at Inje University, Professor Byoungdoo Rhee, delivered a lecture titled “Nursing Faculty Competencies for UHS”, outlining directions for faculty competency development to improve the quality of education.
Following his lecture, Researcher at Inje University Paik Hospital Simulation Center, Mr Donghwi Kim, shared cases of Interprofessional Education (IPE) based on actual operational experience, highlighting the importance and operational strategies of collaborative education among healthcare professionals.

On the second day, LUPIC Project Manager, Professor Jina Oh, emphasised the philosophical values and professional identity of nursing education under the theme of “Nursing Philosophy”.
This was followed by an expert feedback session on 35 application-type Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) developed by Lao faculty members, covering seven subjects of the Lao National Nursing Licensing Examination.
Professor Rhee and Professor Oh provided guidance on improving the validity and reliability of the questions, and shared strategies for developing application-type questions that evaluate practical clinical problem-solving skills. This feedback session served as an opportunity to review the progress made in exam item development to date and strengthen its applicability to the field.
On the final day, Researcher and Visiting Professor at Inje University College of Nursing, Ms Eunsil Won, explained the basics of research design, focusing on understanding variables and selecting appropriate statistical methods for research objectives.
Following this, also Researcher and Visiting Professor at Inje University College of Nursing, Ms Seohyun Won, provided training on analysis methods for each research design and how to interpret research result tables.
The participating faculty members further enhanced their research capabilities by learning how to translate their accumulated teaching experience into tangible research outcomes.
Overall, the workshop was organised as an integrated programme that seamlessly linked faculty competency development, the advancement of evaluation systems, the development of high-quality exam items, and the reinforcement of nursing faculty research capabilities.
Notably, the workshop carried added significance in that it strengthened Lao faculty members’ practical capacity to manage the quality of nursing education and laid the foundation for sustainable capacity building.
Professor Oh said, “The 11th LAIN-LUPIC workshop served as an opportunity to further solidify the foundation for improving the quality of nursing education in Laos by linking teaching, evaluation, and research into a single system.”
She added, “Moving forward, we will continue our cooperation based on Inje University’s educational know-how to ensure that the UHS can achieve sustainable educational innovation and cultivate outstanding nursing professionals.”
