More rain brings risk of flooding, landslides

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology has warned of possible flooding and landslides with heavy rain expected across much of Laos until
August 9.
A low-pressure area moving across northern and central Laos, together with a strong southwesterly wind, will bring thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds to many areas.
The department urges residents, particularly those living in flood-prone and mountainous areas, to remain vigilant and to check future forecasts and weather warnings.
Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast for the northern provinces of Phongsaly, Huaphan and Xiengkhouang, with similar conditions expected in Oudomxay, Bokeo, Luang Namtha, Luang Prabang and Xayabouly.
The central provinces of Bolikhamxay, Khammuan and Savannakhet are also expected to see heavy rainfall, while thunderstorms are forecast for Xaysomboun.
Rain is also forecast for Champasak, Salavan, Xekong and Attapeu provinces in the south of Laos, as well as on the Bolaven Plateau and the capital Vientiane.
Last month, storms Bavi and Maysak swept across central Laos, affecting several districts in Khammuan province, damaging farmland and infrastructure, and disrupting the lives of thousands of people.
