The Meteorology and Hydrology Department has reported that a low-pressure system is moving across northern and central Laos, bringing thunderstorms and showers to many areas, with heavy rainfall expected in some areas, including the capital Vientiane.
The department has advised the public to remain vigilant and prepare for several days of persistent heavy rain, which could trigger more landslides and flooding. People are urged to follow the department’s weather updates to keep track of the situation in their area.
On Wednesday, many households in Yommalath district, Khammuan province, were affected by flash floods following heavy rain and strong winds brought by Typhoon Kajiki, which swept across Laos on Monday.
Provincial authorities are helping them move to higher ground.
Flooding also occurred in Sivilay village in Xaybuathong district on Monday, where houses were inundated and some roads in low-lying areas were impassable.
Provincial authorities provided assistance and the river level has now dropped, according to the Khammuan News.
