Party, state leaders honoured with 50th anniversary medals
Current and former leaders on Thursday received commemorative medals to mark 50 years of the establishment of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
The ceremony took place at the Party Central Committee Office, attended by the Secretary General of the Party Central Committee and President of Laos, Mr Thongloun Sisoulith, along with former Secretaries General, former Presidents, members of the Politbureau, members of the Party Central Committee, and present and former leaders of ministries and organisations.
Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Personnel and Organisation Committee, Mr Vilayvong Bouddakham, read the Presidential Decree on awarding the 50th anniversary medals and led the presentation ceremony.
The medals honour the nation’s top leadership for their dedication to the revolutionary cause and their contribution to national development.
They also pay tribute to the achievements and sacrifices of President Kaysone Phomvihane, President Souphanouvong, other former leaders, revolutionaries, heroes, Party members, officials, and the multi-ethnic Lao people, who fought for independence and succeeded in founding the Lao PDR on December 2, 1975.
Vice President and Politbureau member, Mrs Pany Yathotou, first presented a medal to President Thongloun Sisoulith.
President Thongloun then gave medals to former Secretaries General of the Party Central Committee and former Presidents of Laos, Mr Choummaly Sayasone and Mr Bounnhang Vorachit.
Medals were also presented to 16 members of the Politbureau, both active and retired.
Standing Member of the Party Central Secretariat and Vice President, Mr Bounthong Chitmany, awarded medals to eight members of the Party Central Secretariat, along with Vice Presidents of the National Assembly, former Vice Presidents, and eight former Party and State leaders.
The medal ceremony was part of nationwide activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao PDR, reflecting the nation’s pride in its historic achievements and commitment to unity and continued development.
