President extends New Year greetings, calls for national unity

Secretary General of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, has delivered a New Year message highlighting the achievements of 2025 and urging unity among citizens in the run up to landmark national events.
In his New Year message welcoming 2026, President Thongloun said 2025 was a year of profound significance for the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, marked by the commemoration of important milestones in the history of the Party and nation.
He noted that, despite difficulties and challenges, the Lao people remain united and have achieved encouraging results, including sustained political stability, social peace and order, and continued economic recovery and growth. 
He also highlighted the enhanced role and standing of Laos in regional and international forums.
The President praised the Lao people’s characteristic spirit of unity, describing it as a key force underpinning the country’s safeguarding and development. He also expressed sincere appreciation to international friends and development partners for their valuable support and cooperation, which has contributed to Laos’ achievements over the past year.
Looking ahead, President Thongloun said 2026 will be marked by several decisive political events, including the convening of the 12th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, election of members of the National Assembly’s 10 legislature and 5th Provincial People’s Councils, and the rollout of the 10th five-year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026–2030).
He called on the entire Party, State and Lao people to remain unified and strengthen their sense of solidarity, rallying their collective strength and wisdom to bring about genuine change, while enhancing national mindfulness and ownership and fostering an independent spirit.
Concluding his message, President Thongloun extended best wishes for good health, happiness and peace among all compatriots and friends both at home and abroad, expressing a desire for 2026 to be a year of renewed hope and lasting peace for people worldwide.
