PM to attend ASEAN Summit in Philippines
Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone will attend the 48th ASEAN Summit in the Philippines this week to strengthen regional cooperation and advance Laos’ diplomatic and economic ties.
The Prime Minister will lead a Lao delegation to Cebu on May 7-8 at the invitation of the President of the Philippines, Mr Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release.
The summit, held under the Philippines’ chairmanship, carries the theme “Navigating Our Future, Together”, reflecting the region’s shared efforts to address economic uncertainty, climate change and geopolitical challenges.
Leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) are expected to discuss ways to boost trade, strengthen supply chains, and deepen cooperation in digital development, energy security and connectivity.
The meeting will also review progress on ASEAN community-building and explore measures to maintain peace and stability in the region.
On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Sonexay will hold bilateral talks with leaders from several ASEAN member states to strengthen cooperation and promote investment and trade.
These meetings are expected to focus on enhancing economic ties, improving infrastructure links, and encouraging greater regional integration.
