President to attend Russia Victory Day celebrations
President Thongloun Sisoulith will lead a Lao delegation to attend Russia’s Victory Day celebrations in Moscow on May 9, following an invitation from President Vladimir Putin.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic announced the visit this week, highlighting the importance of the event and the close ties between the two countries.
Victory Day marks the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in 1945, bringing an end to the Second World War in Europe. It is one of the most important dates in Russia’s national calendar and is observed each year with major ceremonies in Moscow.
President Thongloun’s visit reflects the strong and growing relationship between Laos and the Russian Federation. The two countries have maintained long-standing cooperation in key areas such as education, defence, and trade.
Lao and Russian leaders continue to meet regularly to strengthen their strategic partnership. These exchanges aim to build closer cooperation and expand opportunities for mutual benefit.
The upcoming visit is expected to provide an opportunity for high-level discussions on ways to deepen bilateral ties and promote continued cooperation in priority sectors.
Laos and Russia have shared friendly relations for decades, and both sides have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation in the years ahead.
