Lao PM calls for stronger cooperation with Vietnam, Cambodia

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, has called for stronger cooperation between Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia in key sectors including transport connectivity, energy, trade, investment and tourism.
The Lao prime minister made the remarks during a working breakfast meeting with Prime Minister of Vietnam, Le Minh Hung, and Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, on May 8 on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines.
According to the Lao Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting was held at the invitation of the Vietnamese side.
During the talks, the three leaders expressed satisfaction at meeting again and highly valued the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam trilateral cooperation mechanism, describing it as an important platform for regular consultations and closer cooperation among the three neighbouring countries.
The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding friendship, special solidarity and mutual assistance shared by Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
They also noted with satisfaction the growing cooperation in politics, defence and security, which continues to deepen on the basis of mutual trust and understanding.
Prime Minister Sonexay thanked his Vietnamese and Cambodian counterparts for their congratulatory messages following his recent re-election.
He stressed the importance of enhancing practical cooperation in priority areas, particularly transport connectivity, expanding energy cooperation, and promoting trade, investment and tourism among the three countries.
The Lao prime minister also called for closer coordination and mutual support in regional and international forums in order to strengthen the common interests of the three nations.
The three leaders agreed that continued high-level exchanges and meetings would further reinforce unity and deepen cooperation between Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
The meeting reflected the shared determination of the three countries to further strengthen trilateral cooperation and maintain close collaboration on regional and international issues.
