Four Japanese volunteers supporting the development of education in Laos make farewell visits to their host ministry after completing their two-year assignments. The four Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) returned to Japan on March 19. Ms Yamamoto Kana, Mr Iwata Kenta, Ms Nagaoka Miki and Ms Koike Yui were hosted by the Ministry of Education and Sports. Two were assigned to the Department of Education and Sports in Vientiane province and Luang Prabang province, focusing on physical education. The remaining two were placed at teacher training colleges in Vientiane and Savannakhet provinces, specialising in primary school education. A delegation led by JICA Laos Office Senior Representative Ms Yoshimura Yuki was warmly received by the Deputy Director General of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Mr Kouthong Sommala on March 17. Each volunteer briefly reported on their activities over the past two years. Following the departure of these four volunteers, 41 JICA volunteers including two senior volunteers remain in Laos. They will continue working closely with their local counterparts in Vientiane and Luang Prabang, Savannakhet and Vientiane provinces. |
