Dr Sourioudong Sundara leads a training session on digital administration for education departments. |
This began with the ministry’s introduction of the “Khang Panya Lao” online teaching and learning platform.
On Wednesday the ministry held a training session for education, science and sports administrators, aimed at deepening the use of digital government administration systems.
Speaking at the training session, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Dr Sourioudong Sundara said the incorporation of digital government administration through one-stop public service delivery was an essential aspect of the country’s development.
He pointed to the fact that many other countries have successfully transformed administration systems through digitalisation in line with global technological advances.
Efficient and transparent public sector service delivery is especially important, he said, adding that this can be achieved by the digitalisation of government administration, which is gradually being rolled out as various pieces of legislation are enacted.
These include a government decree on digital administration and services, which was issued in August 2022, followed by a decree on the endorsement and promulgation of the national digital economic development vision for 2021-2040.
The government is also pursuing a 10-year digital economic development strategy from 2021-2030, and a five-year digital economic development plan for the period 2021-2025.
Last year, a presidential decree saw the appointment of a national committee to oversee the digital transformation of Laos.
This important legislation supports the government’s policy to digitalise all aspects of society, the economy and government.
In addition to the education sector, the Ministry of Technology and Communications has developed digital government administration systems using e-Office, e-mail, G-Chat, G-Share and G-Drive.
The government is partnering with numerous countries in the development of digital technology and communications, to support the country’s efforts to shake off its landlocked image and forge closer links with the rest of the world.
To accelerate the digitalisation process, the Ministry of Technology and Communications has instituted Lao Digital Week to promote the development and use of innovative technologies.
The government has also urged officials working in the field of technology and communications to strengthen macro-management as part of efforts to resolve the country’s economic and social problems through the use of digital technologies.
