A standout accomplishment of this media partnership has been the advertising of the activities of the ministry and UNICEF through the effective dissemination of information to all 18 provinces. Health promotion and vital information have been communicated through radio, television, newspapers, community radio, and social media.
The 20th anniversary of Lao National Radio’s Youth Media and the launch of the ECD-TV shows “My Village” and “My House” are notable successes stemming from this collaboration.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism was instrumental in disseminating crucial information to communities. Their efforts enabled people to take preventative measures against the virus and safeguard their livelihoods.
Recently, the ministry launched a successful publicity campaign about measles. This initiative aimed to provide widespread access to information and promote understanding, encouraging members of the public to get vaccinated against measles.
During the farewell visit, the minister expressed her gratitude to Dr Britto for her continuous support and cooperation. She also expressed confidence that the partnership between the ministry and UNICEF will continue to yield significant achievements for children and young people in Laos.
UNICEF remains committed to supporting Laos’ development agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Future efforts will focus on enhancing digital literacy among young people and leveraging the media to tackle vaccine hesitancy, gender-based violence, and other critical issues.
“We believe that media, culture, and tourism are crucial for safeguarding well-being and enriching the human capital of Laos. Engaging young people in these sectors fosters a brighter future for all,” Dr Britto said.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister, on behalf of the Lao government, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Dr Britto in recognition of the successful collaboration between Laos and UNICEF.
