Vietnam’s President To Lam visits Star Telecom

President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam, visited Star Telecom (Unitel) in Vientiane on Thursday during his state visit to Laos on July 11-12 to enhance the great friendly relations, special solidary and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.

The General Director of Star Telecom, Mr Tran Trung Hung (fourth right), presents a gift to the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, To Lam (third left), when he visited the company in Vientiane on Thursday.

President To Lam advised Star Telecom to maintain unity between Laos and Vietnamese employees and to ensure they enjoyed a satisfactory standard of living to motivate their desire to perform well and be a driving force for stable development.
Star Telecom must also be a leader in the digital transformation process initiated by the Lao government, the president added.
He advised the company to play a strong role in the supply of digital and other technological products to the National Assembly and the Lao government to ensure the success of the government’s digital transformation strategy.
The company should also continue to carry out activities that benefit society as a whole and pass on its cultural values to other businesses in Laos, especially Vietnamese companies, he added.
The Vietnamese President reminded the company’s management that they should respect Lao law and build trust with the Lao Party and government in the interests of stable development, and also fully comply with other regional rules governing investment along with those laid down by the government of Vietnam, to enable transparent and acceptable levels of competition.
The General Director of Star Telecom, Mr Tran Trung Hung, informed the president that after 15 years of business operation, Unitel had become the largest network in its market and the company had provided the largest amount of revenue to the Lao government, building trust with the government and the people of Laos.
The company has become an outstanding model of friendly relations between the parties and governments of Laos and Vietnam. It has built the largest telecoms network in Laos with 2G, 3G, 4G, 4, 5G networks covering the country and is a leader in 5G technology.
Unitel has also created jobs for more than 27,000 Lao nationals, Mr Tran Trung Hung said.
