Phu Bia Mining employees, Xaysomboun provincial authorities and Nam Mo village representatives prepare to release fish fingerlings in the Nam Mo river.

Phu Bia Mining celebrates National Aquatic-Wildlife Conservation Day and Fish Releasing Day

Phu Bia Mining (PBM) and Xaysomboun province on July 12 released around 6,000 fish fingerlings in the Nam Mo river systems in Xaysomboun province as the two parties marked the 27th anniversary of National Aquatic-Wildlife Conservation Day and Fish Releasing Day.
PBM Environment Manager, Han Chanthavong, and Company representatives delivered a speech at the event focusing on PBM’s commitment to protecting the environment in which it operates and minimising the impact to the environment, in particular aquatic ecosystems.
The Company does this by implementing robust environmental monitoring programmes that track the aquatic ecology across its operating sites.
In 2024, Phu Bia Mining recognises the importance of aquatic and wildlife conservation by providing over 30,000 fingerlings to Xaysomboun provincial authorities for the province’s celebration and fish releasing events.
PanAust Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Daling Zheng, spoke about Phu Bia Mining’s support to the Lao government for aquatic animal and wildlife protection.
Mr Zheng said: “Environmental management is at the heart of how Phu Bia Mining operates in Laos. From exploration to development and throughout production, we endeavour to limit the impacts of our operations on the natural environment.”
“As a responsible mine in Xaysomboun province, we continue to support the Lao government’s 2024 campaign to release approximately 60 million fingerlings into river systems across the country,” Zheng said.
Phu Bia Mining Chairman, Mr Chanpheng, added “We work with Xaysomboun provincial authorities to help spread the message about aquatic and wildlife protection to local communities and our workforce. Thank you to our environment team who continue to implement the Company’s core value for caring for the environment close to our operations.”
