Laos condoles the passing of Vietnam’s Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

The Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, state President, the National Assembly, government of Laos and the Lao Front for National Development have conveyed their heartfelt condolences on the demise of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam on July 19.
The telegram sent to Vietnam in this regard stated: “The Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and the Lao Front for National Development, and the Lao multiethnic people would like to express deepest sympathies and condolences upon receiving the news of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong's passing on July 19, 2024.”
The departure of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong signifies the loss of an outstanding revolutionary leader, who dedicated his life, energy and wisdom to the noble cause of national liberation, reunification and the transformative journey of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong played a pivotal role in strengthening and empowering the Vietnamese party, state and people. His unwavering commitment to defence, anti-corruption and the elevation of Vietnam's profile on the regional and international stage has made him a distinguished hero of the new era.
The passing of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong also signifies the loss of a closest friend and comrade of the Lao party, state and multiethnic people.
Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, a revolutionary leader in the modern era, carried forward the mission of President Ho Chi Minh and made significant contributions to fostering the exceptional great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, states and peoples of Laos and Vietnam, and Vietnam and Laos.
“During this somber moment, we extend our deepest condolences, prayers, and sympathies to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President, the National Assembly, the Government of the Republic of Vietnam, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and the Vietnamese people, and families of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong,” the telegram stated.
“We firmly believe that the party, state, and people of Vietnam will transform this unfortunate event into a source of strength, fostering unity among the entire nation to forge ahead resolutely. Together, Vietnam will continue building a modern industrial country, realising the aspirations of a prosperous and contented populace, and achieving democracy, justice, and prosperity.”
