Luxembourg gives boost to Laos’ compliance with international law 

Officials from Laos and Luxembourg have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on technical cooperation in building awareness and capacity among Lao government officials concerning international law enforcement.
The agreement was signed in Vientiane on Tuesday between the Ministry of Foreign and LuxDev LAO/037 project staff with the Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance (ILSTA).
The Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance was set up by legal professionals from international development organisations, national development agencies, academia, and the private sector.
ILSTA is registered in Luxembourg and works as a partner organisation for Luxembourg’s development cooperation.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding will be an important basis for increasing technical cooperation with regard to international law, law enforcement and international human rights law, as well as contributing to the implementation of the obligations of the Lao PDR under the conventions it is a party to.
The project will also advance progress towards fulfilment of the Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal No. 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions) through the organisation of seminars and trainings on topics related to the implementation of conventions in the fields of transnational crime, cooperation on international justice, international human rights law, and various international judicial organisations.
This cooperation also supports Ruk Sam Yoong (ICP V, 2023-2027) in terms of good governance and the rule of law in Laos.
