PM: Accelerate Vientiane infrastructure projects, use local materials

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone has tasked authorities in charge of key infrastructure projects in Vientiane to ensure they are completed on time with local materials prioritised for construction use.
The PM made the ask on Friday during his tour of the construction sites, including a water treatment plant in the Xaythany district, an embankment project in the Sisattanak district, an electric bus station, and the Patuxay Monument Extension project located on a former Ministry of Justice building and area.
Being updated on the current state of the projects, PM Sonexay pushed for sustainable development and for authorities to strictly follow regulations so that the projects do not negatively impact the environment or the general public, according to Lao National Radio.
“Wherever possible, use Lao-made equipment and materials and comply with quality controls to ensure that technical standards are met and that new developments are long-lasting,” PM Sonexay said.
Joining the PM were the Mayor of Vientiane, Mr Atsaphangthong Siphandone, and other senior officials.
The mayor briefed the PM on the city’s preparations to host the ASEAN Summit and related meetings in October, progress made on a resolution to create an independent economy, and challenges facing social and economic development in Vientiane.
Prime Minister Sonexay suggested city authorities take unified and determined steps to resolve the ongoing economic challenges, such as creating a strong production base, improving the business environment, and strengthening revenue collection.
