Luang Prabang welcomes over 2.4 mn visitors in eight months

Luang Prabang has continued to cement its reputation as Laos’ top travel destination, with more than 2.4 million visitors recorded in the first eight months of this year, achieving 84 percent of the province’s annual target.
According to the Luang Prabang province’s Culture and Tourism Department, the total number of visitors included 925,599 domestic tourists and more than 1.4 million international arrivals. The figure reflects a steady recovery of the tourism sector, driven by improved transport links and growing international recognition of the province’s cultural and natural heritage.
Officials noted that the Laos-China Railway remains a key factor in attracting more travellers, while airlines and bus operators have expanded services to meet rising demand.
Luang Prabang authorities said they are working to enhance infrastructure and services ahead of the next peak season, with road repairs and facility upgrades underway to ensure a smoother travel experience.
The World Heritage town has gained global attention through prestigious rankings, including being listed among the world’s top 10 destinations by Travel and Tour World, and ranked first on Lonely Planet’s list of 22 must-visit places in Asia.
With its unique blend of history, spirituality and natural beauty, Luang Prabang continues to offer memorable experiences at landmarks such as Vat Xieng Thong, the Royal Palace Museum, Kuangxi waterfall, and the Pak Ou caves, alongside traditional markets and cultural performances.
