Laos named among world’s top travel destinations for 2025
Laos has been recognised as one of the world’s most attractive countries to visit in 2025, after Lonely Planet placed the nation in the global Top 5 in its annual “Best in Travel” awards.
According to the Lonely Planet website, Laos offers travellers a quieter and more authentic side of Asia, now more accessible thanks to the newly-launched Laos-China high-speed railway.
This modern link enables visitors to travel affordably, efficiently and sustainably through the country’s stunning mountains, cultural treasures, and ancient towns, the website stated.
The travel guide highlighted Laos’ diverse attractions, from adrenaline-fuelled adventures in Vangvieng, where cycling, ziplining, tubing, climbing and trekking are popular, to the majestic That Luang stupa and Patuxay monument in Vientiane.
Visitors are also encouraged to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Luang Prabang, where they can share in the iconic morning alms-giving ceremony and tour the former royal palace, and visit the stunning Kuang Xi waterfall.
This recognition adds to a growing list of international accolades for Laos.
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) recently ranked Laos 13th among the fastest-growing tourist destinations worldwide, with international arrivals rising by 25.29 percent in 2024 compared to the previous year.
Earlier this year, Laos also earned global acclaim for Luang Prabang’s sustainable tourism model, winning a Green Destinations Top 100 Story Award in 2025.
In recent years, Time magazine listed the town among the world’s 50 greatest places to visit, while Lonely Planet previously ranked Luang Prabang the No.1 destination in Asia.
Tourism authorities report that more than 4.1 million foreign visitors came to Laos last year, a 21 percent increase from 2023. With its breathtaking landscapes, rich traditions and warm hospitality, Laos continues to captivate travellers seeking both adventure and tranquility.
