Bo Thammavongsa gives an interview at Wattay International Airport after returning from Indonesia’s Asian Games in August.

Bo sets sights on more SEA Games medal glory

Experienced Lao pencak silat fighter in the 55kg division Mr Bo Thammavongsa is aiming to win another medal at next year’s SEA Games in the Philippines.
At 26, Bo believes his best year’s as a fighter lay ahead of him in the Indonesian martial art and he is keen to compete in as many national and international events as possible.
His extensive list of achievements includes winning bronze in the men’s 50 to 55 kg division at the Asian Games in Indonesia in August to go with his bronze medal at last year’s SEA Games in Malaysia.
Bo Thammavong also won a silver medal at the World Pencak Silat Championship in Indonesia back in 2016.
Currently based in Hongsouphab village of Xaysettha district, Bo has worked in the Army sport sector of the Ministry of National Defence for more than three years where he conducts his training.
Next year, he will have an opportunity to represent the Ministry of National Defence at the 11th National Games in Xieng Khuang province.
In the future, he hopes to become a national pencak silat coach and develop up-and-coming fighters ready for international competition.
Despite Bo’s considerable international success, the Lao Pencak Silat Federation is finding it difficult to attract young fighters to the sport.
In the past, he trained in taekwondo and competed in local events before switching and finding success in pencak silat.
