Championship to hone Lao golfers’ skills ahead of National Games

Up-and-coming young golfers, sporting ministry officials and golf club members from Vientiane and the provinces will have an opportunity to test their skills at the Lao Golf Club Championship taking place in Vientiane from October 20-21.
The aim of the championship is to raise standards in the game to those of neighbouring countries and give home-grown talent some match practice ahead of the National Games in Xieng Khuang province in November.

Mr Bualane Silipanya (centre) addresses a press conference at the Lao Golf Club on Friday.

The championship will take place at the Lao Golf Club, at km 14 on Thadeua Road in Hadxaifong district, and will be attended by about 160 players.
Provincial golf federations can send teams to compete in the singles and team (four players) events.
This year, the Lao Golf Federation is allowing junior golfers in U-13 age group to take part. Cups will be awarded to the first, second and third placed junior golfers.
The Lao Golf Federation and the Lao Golf Club held a press conference on Friday to announce the details of the championship.
Present at the event were the Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Mr Bualane Silipanya, Vice President of the Lao Golf Federation Mr Songkham Silaphet, federation officials, sponsors and veteran golfers.
Mr Bualane encouraged junior players to put in lots of practice and urged their parents to support them in their attempts to improve their game.
He urged everyone taking part in the championship to practise hard before the event, adding that all players should familiarise themselves with the rules of the game.
Entrants can register up until October 15 and pay an entry fee of one million kip at the Lao Golf Club. The tournament comprises 36 holes.
On October 17, the federation will announce the names of the players in each group and on October 19 golfers can start practising for the event on the course.
The federation will present gold, silver and bronze medals to the winners in the singles category, and will give a cup and medals to the winners of the team event.
Players ranked one to 10 in the championship will be eligible to compete at the National Games.
Golfers finishing in places one to five will be able to join the national golf team in 2019.
This year’s championship is supported by the KOLAO Group, Lao Golf Club and other parties.
The National Games in November will include an 18-hole golf competition on the Xieng Khuang course.
