Lao U-16 team ready for Women’s Championship qualifiers

Laos is ready for action in the 2019 AFC U-16 Women’s Championship qualifiers in Mongolia from September 15-23 after attending the J-Green Sakai Dream Camp in Osaka, Japan, from August 23-30.

The Lao women’s U-16 team after arriving in Mongolia this week.

The Lao girls are currently training in Mongolia after arriving on Thursday and are quietly confident of putting in a strong showing during the championship qualifiers following their comprehensive preparations.
The squad of 22 girls is under the direction of Head Coach Ms Phonethip Sengmany.
The championship qualifiers’ Group B includes Laos, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Mongolia.
Laos plays Pakistan on Monday, Mongolia on Wednesday, and Hong Kong on September 21 with their final group match against India on September 23.
During the J-Green Sakai Dream Camp in Japan, the U-16 side tested their skills against Osaka Kaisei Gakuen High School and Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girls in friendly matches.
Since then, new players from Vientiane as well as Savannakhet and Huaphan provinces have been introduced to further bolster the squad.
The Lao team competed at the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship in Thailand in September last year but failed to make it past the group stage.
Many of the U-16 players gained valuable experience at the 2018 Asean Football Federation (AFF) U-16 Girls’ Championship in Indonesia in May where the team finished a commendable fourth.
The U-16 players will also have an opportunity to represent provinces and ministries at the 11th National Games’ football event in Xieng Khuang province this November, with most destined to graduate to the women’s national senior team in the future.
