Laos readies for Bangabandhu Gold Cup action 

The national football team will depart for Bangladesh on September 29 to compete for the first time in Bangabandhu Gold Cup 2018 from October 1-12.
Currently, 30 hopefuls from many clubs are training at the Lao Football Federation (LFF) field under head national coach, Mr Mike Wong Mun Heng who will whittle down the final squad to 23 players in the coming week. 
As part of their preparation, the team attended at training camp in Barcelona, Spain earlier this month and played a friendly against the United Arab Emirates on September 11.
The Gold Cup’s Group A comprises Nepal, Palestine and Tajikistan, while Laos is drawn in Group B with Bangladesh and the Philippines.  
The Lao lads will face hosts Bangladesh at Sylhat Zila Stadium on October 1 at 6:30pm and Philippines on October 3 at 6:30pm.
First and second placed teams from each group at Gold Cup 2018 qualify for the semi-finals on October 9-10 with the final taking place on October 12. 
Following the cup, Laos will then play host to visiting Mongolia for a friendly match in the capital on October 16 before meeting Vietnam at the National Stadium in Vientiane on November 8 in the group stage of the 2018 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup.
Laos will then play Malaysia away on November 12, welcome Myanmar in Vientiane on November 16, and take on Cambodia away on November 20.      
The AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 involves Asean countries competing from November 8 to December 15. The Cup’s Group A comprises Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos while Group B consists of Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore.
The national team took on Muangthong United FC from Thailand in a friendly match at the National Stadium in Vientiane recently which also helped raise money for flood victims.
Numerous local rep players have previously plied their trade in the Thai division 3 and 4 leagues with football’s most recent domestic action being the Division 1 tournament in the capital.
