The Lao women’s and men’s doubles teams ready for action at the 33rd King’s Cup Sepak Takraw World Cup in Thailand on Thursday.

Laos scores historic golden double at Sepak Takraw World Cup

Laos has won gold for the first time in both the men’s and women’s doubles events at the 33rd King’s Cup Sepak Takraw World Cup in Korat, Thailand on Thursday afternoon.
In the men’s doubles final, Laos defeated India 2-1 while the women overcame the Republic of Korea 2-1 in their doubles final.
The Lao team is competing in men’s and women’s singles (three players), doubles, the new quad event (four players) hoop sepak takraw, and team (three teams or 12 players) event at the 33rd Sepak Takraw World Cup which concludes on Sunday.
The team also won a bronze medal in the women’s singles on Thursday easily making this their most successfully outing at the sport’s most prestigious annual tournament.  
Lao teams have previously taken part in the King’s Cup Division 1 competition where they won one bronze medal.
The Lao Sepak Takraw Federation has hailed the team’s impressive efforts this week in the World Cup which builds upon other recent successes for national players.
At the Asian Games in Indonesia last month, the Lao men won a silver medal in the team (three teams) event while the women’s secured a bronze medal in the women’s team (four players) event.
