Lao tennis confronts competition from China, South Korea, Indonesia

An’ning City, China: Lao tennis players put on a brave show during matches with their opponents from China, South Korea and Indonesia on the first day of the “Colourful Yunnan -The Belt and Road Initiative Kunming International Tennis Tournament” in An’ning city but were unable to achieve much success.
The players from Laos played matches in three categories - Mixed Team, Junior Boys’ Team and Girls’ Team.
Mixed Team: Laos vs China
In the men’s singles match, Mr Vitaya Rasavady from Laos faced off with China’s Mr Zeng Shihong. Both of them tried to attack and control the ball as long as possible. But Mr Zeng performed better than Mr Vitaya. At the end of the match, Mr Zeng defeated Mr Vitaya 5-4 and 4-2.
In the women singles match Ms Phonesamai Champarmanivong of Laos was defeated by Ms Sun Ziyue of China 4-0 and 4-0.
After the singles matches, players from the two countries competed in the mixed team event and the men’s and women’s doubles games.
Laos lost the mixed team and women’s doubles games to China.
But the Lao team scored a success in the men’s doubles match.
Lao players Mr Vitaya Rasavady and Mr Sataporn Simmalavong played a better game than China’s Mr Fan Chongyuan and Mr Qiu Zhouyang and won the match 5-4 and 4-2.   
Next, Laos will take on Vietnam.
Both countries are in group D of the Mixed Team event.
Junior Boys’ Team: Laos vs South Korea
Mr Phathikone Kanyaphan from Laos played Mr Jeo Jewon of South Korea in the singles match.
In the first game, the Korean player controlled the ball more effectively than his Lao counterpart.
In the second game, the Korean faced a difficult situation as he could not score easily because the Lao player played better than in the first game.
Despite the Lao player doing a little better, the Korean player won the match with a score of 4-1 and 5-3.
In the second match, Mr Lang Xaisomboun of Laos took on Yoon Hyeondeok from South Korea.
The Korean player also won this game 4-0 and 4-0.
After the end of the men’s singles event, the same players from Laos and South Korea squared off in the doubles match. The game was very exciting with rallies and each side scored with great difficulty.
Yet finally, the South Korean team defeated the Lao team 4-1 and 4-0.
South Korea, Vietnam and Laos are in group D of the Junior Boys’ Team event. In the next match, Laos will face Vietnam.
Girls’ Team: Laos vs Indonesia
Laos is in group C, together with Indonesia and Vietnam.
Two players from Laos competed in the singles and doubles.
Ms Thirada Phommachack went to the court first to take on Indonesia’s Ms Kusumaningtyas Niken Ferlyana but lost 4-1 and 4-0. 
Next up, Ms Thipphasone Pansivongxay played against Ms Sanjaya Carrolina Martha in the second match.
Alas her service game was not effective resulting in too many faults. At the same time it was very hard for Ms Thipphasone to strike back against the hard hitting baseline returns from the Indonesian opponent.
At the end of the match, Ms Martha had taken victory for Indonesia with a result of 4-0 and 4-0.
After the singles, the same players from both sides took on each other one more time in the doubles.
The Indonesian players worked together very well on the court, while the Lao athletes played well too.
However, the Indonesian team defeated the Lao team 4-0 and 4-1. 
The next match will also see Laos take on Vietnam.
