Navasaksith men’s team battle with Saravan province during the final of 5th traditional boat racing festival on the Mekong River by Inpeng Cultural Park in Dongphosy village, Hadxaifong district on Sunday.

Navasaksith win back-to-back boat racing trophies

The Sengphet UXO Clearance Company’s Navasaksith men’s team have retained their champion’s crown for the 5th traditional boat racing festival on the Mekong River at Inpeng Cultural Park in Dongphosy village, Hadxaifong district, Vientiane on Sunday.
In the final, Sengphet Navasaksith men’s team beat Saravan province while Phonephakeo defeated Saifa in the third and fourth place playoff.
There were eight teams (55 rowers) which were dividing into two groups competing in the boat racing festival held from September 24-30.
The traditional event’s aimed to encourage friendly competition in the sport and also help promote Visit Laos Year 2018.
“The event had a great atmosphere this year as it did last year. In future, we plan to increase the number of activities to encourage more visitors to cheer on the boat racing teams and visit Inpeng Cultural Park,” Chief Executive Officer of Inpeng Group, Mr Add Phannivong said.
“We are now looking to select the best team from the competition to compete in events in Thailand in the near future,” he said.
Navasaksith received 13 million kip and a trophy for the championship with second placed Saravan province getting 11 million kip, while third placed Phonephakeo and fourth placed Saifa also receiving smaller cash prizes.
Following the Inpeng Cultural Park boat racing festival, many teams will take part in the Vientiane Boat Racing Festival on the Mekong River near Done Chan Temple on October 25.
