New coach aims to get Lao footy fans cheering

Fans of the national men’s football team will be hoping for an improved performance in the international friendly match against Mongolia tonight at the National Stadium under their new manager.

Opposing coaches Mr Hans Michael Weiss (second left) and V. Sundramoorthy shake hands during the press conference at the LFF office on Monday.

New coach of the national football team V. Sundramoorthy only took the reins one week ago so has had little time to prepare his squad.
Laos previously beat Mongolia 3-0 in Vientiane five years ago but the northern Asian team has developed since then so the local lads will be in for a tight encounter.
The Lao Football Federation (LFF) held a press conference for the international friendly their office on Monday which was attended by Head Coach of Mongolia, Mr Hans Michael Weiss and his counterpart V. Sundramoorthy who reported on their teams’ preparations for the match.
Mr Hans said his players were feeling the heat in Laos but had developed well this year and were quietly confident despite the previous loss to Laos.
“Our players will try to follow and control the Lao players who possess good speed,” he said.
Singapore defeated Mongolia 2-0 in an international friendly ahead of their trip to Laos.
For his part, V. Sundramoorthy said it was a challenge for him to get the team ready for the match as they eyed other international games ahead.
Following tonight’s friendly in Vientiane, the Lao team will concentrate on preparations for the upcoming AFF Suzuki Cup.
“We will try to do our best so the team can succeed at international events in the future,” he said.
The coach said he was also keen to foster U-19 talent for promotion to the senior national team and believed that youth was Laos’ greatest asset moving forward.
Much to the chagrin of local fans, the national team has been unsuccessful in progressing past the group stage of various international competitions in recent times.
