Police, EVO face off in football’s Division 1 final

Police FC will play EVO FC in the final of the nation’s second tier Division 1 comp at the Lao Football Federation (LFF) field on October 20 after both teams won their semi-finals on Saturday.
In the playoffs, Police FC was able to beat last year’s Division 1 champion Army FC 4-2 while season debutants EVO FC overcame Vientiane United 2-1.
Army FC will face Vientiane United in the playoff for third and fourth place on October 20.
Following the final and playoff, the LFF will host a closing ceremony for the tournament and present trophies and cash prizes.
This year’s Division 1 champions will receive gold medals, a trophy and 30 million kip; second place will get silver medals and 20 million kip, and third place will take home bronze medals and 7 million kip. The comp’s top scorer will also be rewarded by the LFF.
This year’s competition was divided into Group A with DK FC, Trinity, STT, KP, EVO United and Police FC, along with Group B comprising Bounkeu Education School, Lao-Top College, Vientiane United, Baelao and Army FC.
The Division 1 winner will again be promoted to next year’s Pepsi Lao Premier League with the LFF using its second-tier tournament to help develop emerging football talent. The federation provided financial support to each team competing in Division 1 this year.
An Army FC team was last year’s Division 1 champion qualifying them to play in Pepsi Lao Premier League 2018.
