“We are very tired. But we are struggling and we forget to eat food, and 183 people have been buried in Sagaing,” an official from a social welfare association wrote on social media on the evening of March 29.
More than 40 to 50 dead bodies of worshippers trapped in three mosques in Min Street have been found, and efforts are ongoing.
“At 5 pm, my brother’s dead body came out. My father, my little brother and my two aunts were killed. All of them, except for my father, who went to the mosque, were killed in the incident. Until now, the body of one of the aunts has not found. It is more than heartbreaking. They are all going to Allah in a group and enjoying a good place. The rest of us are heartbreaking. We cry every time a dead body comes out while waiting for my brother who were trapped. Everyone is crying in pain as there are people who have five or four or two of their family members were being killed in the quake,” a family member wrote about the mosque collapse.
“A person from a shop selling handsets is saying that all the employees and owners are safe. When they cleaned it up the shop because of the smell, the two bodies of their customers came out,” said a resident.
Similarly, 11 people, including 6 children, died in the collapse of a private school, and the dead bodies have not been recovered yet.
In Sagaing, there are still many cases where people trapped under collapsed buildings have not been able to be rescued due to mechanical difficulties.
Currently, residents in Sagaing say that transportation, food and drinking water are becoming increasingly difficult.
