(Eleven) -- The Myanmar Fire Service announced that it is searching for and rescuing those trapped in the collapse of the Zenodaya School buildings in the Sagaing Hills.
The earthquake caused damage to buildings at Zenodaya Monastery, one of the prominent monasteries in the Sittwe Mountains many monks were injured and killed.
A nun from a nunnery near the Zenodia said that there were people trapped under the collapsed building.
“No one at the nunnery was injured. We are currently moving to an evacuation site. There are collapsed buildings at the Zenodaya School near our nunnery. We also had to evacuate, so we don’t know the details of the situation. From their side, we only saw a large amount of dust rising from the collapsed building. Right now, the concrete slabs have not been removed, so there may be something underneath,” said the nun
Currently, search and rescue operations are underway by Sagaing Township Fire Department personnel on March 31 to find those trapped after the collapse of the Zenodaya Monastery building.
The National Assembly has declared a national day of mourning from March 31 to April 6, and the national flag will be flown at half-mast during those days.
