Diplomats strengthen Lao-Thai relations during Lao National Day celebration
BANGKOK, Thailand: Nearly 600 attendees, including Lao embassy officials, participated in various activities celebrating the 49th anniversary of the establishment of the Lao PDR on December 6 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The event brought together former Thai politicians, members of Thai parliament, deputy prime ministers, ministers, Thai-Lao Association, businesses, and Lao communities. Activities included a friendship golf tournament, dining and traditional performances by Lao ethnic groups residing in Thailand. The gathering highlighted the strong bonds and cooperation between the two nations.
Mr Khamphan Anlavan, Ambassador of the Lao PDR to Thailand, warmly welcomed the guests. In his address, he reflected on the rich traditions of Lao National Day and highlighted the achievements of the Lao PDR over 49 years, including its pivotal role as the Chair of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, held in October 2024. He also emphasised the importance of Lao diplomatic efforts in Thailand, supported by bilateral cooperation at every level, from national leaders to local communities.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors from both Thailand and Laos for making celebrations such as Lao National Day and the Lao New Year possible every year. Their encouragement motivates our embassy staff to further strengthen diplomatic ties and collaboration between the two nations,” said Ambassador Khamphan.
He added that such support has contributed to successful missions, including the official visits of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and the Thai and Lao Prime Ministers.
The festivities were enriched by performances from Lao ethnic communities in Thailand, as well as engaging cultural displays by embassy staff, featuring traditional dances and songs that symbolised the vibrant heritage shared by the two nations.
