Hun Sen: Cambodia set to witness leadership transition

(The Phnom Penh Post/ANN) -- Prime Minister Hun Sen reaffirmed on July 28 that Cambodia is about to experience a landmark leadership transition, with the country poised to have a new prime minister who will continue steering the nation towards prosperity and sustainable development.
“Under the new leadership, the objective remains the same – to serve the country and people with devout dedication,” he said of a new administration to be led by his son Hun Manet.
Manet is slated to take over the Kingdom’s top office after an upcoming vote of confidence at the National Assembly on August 22.
Hun Sen emphasised that his Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) emerged victorious from the general election, interpreting this as a triumph not just for the party but for all compatriots. He expressed his aspiration for harmonious coexistence among all political factions in the country.
The outgoing premier extended his gratitude to the electorate, saying their unwavering support and faith in him and his eldest son Manet have been instrumental in their readiness to helm the government for a seventh term.
The previous day, Manet took to Twitter to address his father’s counsel in the lead-up to the landmark leadership transition.
“I will always remember your advice and will act on it in all circumstances,” he wrote in response to Hun Sen’s tweet.
He advised Manet to safeguard the Kingdom’s hard-won peace, foster the continued development of the nation and uphold the wellbeing of the people at all costs once he takes on the role of prime minister.
Hun Sen announced his retirement from the top office earlier on July 26, after nearly four decades in power.
