Expressway operator promotes road safety

Vientiane-Vangvieng Expressway staff. Laos-China Joint Expressway Development Co., Ltd. employees and police bring the fire under control.

The Laos-China Joint Expressway Development Co., Ltd. is urging motorists travelling on the Vientiane-Vangvieng Expressway to make sure their vehicles are in good working order, especially during hot weather.
The expressway operator advises people travelling long distances to check their vehicle’s wiring and fuel system, to make sure there are no hazards that could cause an accident, such as a fire.
The call comes following an incident on the expressway just before noon on Sunday, when a pick-up truck driving from Vangvieng to Vientiane suddenly caught fire.
The driver parked in the emergency lane, then called the emergency number, waiting for help.
When Laos-China Joint Expressway Development Co., Ltd. staff received the call, they immediately contacted the fire department, police, and emergency rescue service, and then went to the scene to provide help.
When they arrived at the burning pick-up, they immediately ordered the car parked behind to back away and also cleared the area of other vehicles, to keep the emergency lane open for the fire engine which was on its way.
It took about half an hour for emergency services to arrive, but the fire was brought under control and there were no casualties.
Police said the cause of the fire was faulty wiring in the pick-up.
The Laos-China Joint Expressway Development Co., Ltd. encourages road users to inspect vehicle engines and make sure nothing appears to be amiss with regard to wiring and possible fuel leaks, as these are potentially dangerous and could result in a fire.
Other advice is not to put any flammable items in vehicles, such as anything that contains gas, perfume, or clothing, to reduce the risk of fire. And when in a parking lot, make sure there is nothing flammable underneath the vehicle. If driving a long distance, motorists should stop their vehicle from time to time to let the engine cool down. It’s also a good idea to carry a fire extinguisher, a hammer and other tools that could be useful in the event of a fire or other incident.
With its timely detection of and fast reaction to this emergency, combined with orderly and effective management of the situation, the  Laos-China Joint Expressway Development Co., Ltd. has ably demonstrated the brand image of the Yunnan Construction & Investment Group to the people of Laos.

This pick-up broke into flames while travelling on the Vientiane-Vangvieng Expressway on Sunday. A section of the Vientiane-Vangvieng Expressway.
