Lao Brewery supports education, human resource development
Education is a key asset for any nation. Based on the experience of rich nations, national development is only possible and sustainable if people have the knowledge and capabilities to make changes and undertake transformation.
Realising the importance of education for national development and economic transformation in Laos, the Lao Brewery has launched an initiative to provide financial support for poor but outstanding students so they can pursue their education dreams and use their knowledge to develop Laos.

According to data from the company, over the past decades the Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. has provided more than 3,000 scholarships with a value of 8.7 billion kip for students at seven institutions: the National University of Laos (1,240 scholarships), National Institute of Fine Arts (290 scholarships), Souphanouvong University (487 scholarships) and Savannakhet University (385 scholarships).
In addition, Savannakhet Teacher Training College, Champassak University and Champassak Teacher Training College received 120, 392 and 140 scholarships respectively. These scholarships have helped ease the financial burden on poor but academically able students so they can concentrate on their studies without the constant worry of financial constraints.
Lao Brewery’s business mission is to produce beer, drinking water and soft drinks, using its profits to provide scholarships as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies.
The concept behind the return of some of the profit to the public is fast becoming a global business approach and Lao Brewery wants to follow this business model in order to contribute to national development.
“Social responsibility is important to Lao Brewery. The company considers it as both an obligation and a priority in the operation of its business, as the company’s growth has been due to support from society. The company has always provided support for social activities in connection with the preservation of Lao culture and the protection and preservation of the environment,” a company statement reads.
“The company has placed social and environmental impact management as a core element in its strategic planning and business operations. As a result, the company has supported several social development projects, has cared for its consumers and has contributed to the preservation of the environment.”
Apart from scholarships, Lao Brewery also donates money for national and social events. It also donates funds for poverty reduction in the country.
Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. was founded in 1973 as a joint venture between foreign investors and Lao businessmen and was originally registered as the Lao Beer and Ice Factory. At that time, the company had an annual production capacity of 3 million litres of beer and 1.5 million litres of carbonated drinks, and a daily production capacity of 120 tonnes.
In 2008, Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. opened its second factory in Champassak province. This plant comprises a full managerial and technological system.
In 2012, Lao Soft Drink Co., Ltd. became part of the Lao Brewery Co., Ltd. and in 2016 the company launched the Somersby and Tuborg brands.
Today, Lao Brewery produces a variety of beverages including beers, soft drinks, drinking water and wines. The company is committed to supporting Lao culture and sustainable development.
