Unitel receives two international awards for electronic system services 

Star Telecom Company (Unitel), a leading technology and communications company, has received two international awards in recent years.
The first was an IT World Award in 2021 under the U-Office products award scheme (Office management and electronic administration for Lao and IT Products & Services for Enterprise (Large) for 2,500 and more employees) and was named a Gold Globe Winner.

The second was a Stevie Award in 2022 from U-Office products, “Mobile Office” (business management by electronic systems).
U-Office is an electronic document management and operation system, which was developed by Unitel for agencies, organisations and businesses using multiple platforms, especially SMEs around the country.
Currently, there are more than 105 organisations in the government and private sectors testing use of the system with over 1,450 users.
The system has been operational and in use since 2020.
U-Office is an application that serves the needs of management, processing work records, incoming documents, outgoing documents, operating internal work, creating and managing documents and reports with the aim of replacing and modernising traditional methods of information management.
It saves time and money and enables faster, more accurate and transparent processes.
The system helps management units in Laos save huge amounts of time when approving documents and delivering documents, and saves almost 3,800 tonnes of paper.
This product was developed as an App for use on Android and the IOS system and at present is in use free of charge in ministries, other government agencies and state enterprises in Laos.
Importantly, leading committees can sign documents using the U-Office system, which is an application that helps streamline office work.      
Unitel was founded in 2008 as a joint venture between the state-owned Lao Asia Telecommunication state enterprise (51 percent) and the Vietnam-based Viettel Group (49 percent), which invested in telecommunications.
Unitel has made plenty of great achievements such as US$2 billion in accumulated revenue until 2021, US$77 million in profit, US$545 billion contributed to the budget of the government, upgraded 3G, 4G, and 4.5G mobile internet networks 100 percent overall the country, created 9,302 cellular transmission stations, and installed 30,000 kilometres of transmission lines and fiber optic cable from the north to the south of the country.
These systems have reached 3,500,000 subscribers, accounting for a 57 percent market share of mobile communications in Laos.
Over the last 10 years, the company has seen great achievements and progression in different business operations.

 

In 2009 it was the leading telecoms operator in terms of infrastructure. In 2010 the company earned revenue of US$60 million and made a profit of US$15 million.
In 2011 it became the leading operator in terms of customers and in 2012 the company launched 3G service in 17 provinces and received the Best Operator in Developing Market award at the World Communication Award (WCA).
In 2013, it reached a milestone of 2 million customers, and in 2014 received a certificate of merit from the government for contributions to socio-economic development.
In 2015, Unitel launched 4G services nationwide and in 2016 reached a milestone of US$1 billion in accumulated revenue after seven years of business.
In 2017, the company opened roaming like home in three Indochina countries and in 2018 was recognised as a new symbol of friendship between these countries.
In 2019 digital transformation took place and in 2020 connections to advanced technology were advanced, and in 2021 Unitel provided technology systems to e-government and businesses.
