A visit to the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone C – Savan Park and Savannakhet Dry Port by the Secretary of the Party Committee of Da Nang City of Vietnam, Mr Nguyen Van Quang, and his delegation is expected to enhance cooperation between the SEZ and Da Nang seaport.

The CEO of Savan Logistics and Founder of the Savannakhet Dry Port, Mr Jean Pierre Grzelczyk (left), briefs Secretary Nguyen Van Quang about the port’s operations.

Mr Nguyen Van Quang, who is also a Member of the Party Central Committee, made the visit on Thursday to learn about the development of Savan Park and Savannakhet Dry Port, and the seaports that the SEZ uses to connect and ship goods, including  Laemchabang Port in Thailand and Da Nang port in Vietnam.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Chief Executive Director of the SEZ, Mr Phanomkone Dararasmy, the Chief Executive Officer of Savannakhet Dry Port, Mr Jean Pierre Grzelczyk, and workers at the zone.
At the site, Mr Nguyen Van Quang and his delegation visited several companies and their working space.
Mr Grzelczyk made a video presentation on the working system and professional services of the dry port. This focused on preparation of documents, the payment system that incorporates the banking system through the Smart Trade card, the E-locking system which allows only specific  officials to open containers, and the GPS system to monitor goods being transported from the port to their destination.
After the video presentation, officials from Da Nang City expressed interested in the administration and se

rvice system of Savan Logistics Company and invited the firm’s representative to participate in a transportation seminar to be held in Da Nang City in August.

The Savannakhet Dry Port is also looking forward to cooperating with Da Nang Seaport.
The Savannakhet Dry Port is a fundamental component of the government’s strategy to convert Laos from a landlocked to a land-link country. The site earns considerable tax revenues for the government, helps improve the living standards of the local community, and boosts exports.
According to the dry port, 190 companies are registered at the site, with more than US$ 375 million in investments in three sectors – industry, commerce and service. These companies have created about 3,900 jobs.
During the first six months of this year, the business at the Savannakhet Special Economic Zone imported goods worth more than US$ 90 million, while exports were nearly US$ 85.5 million.
The Savannakhet Special Economic (Savan Park Zone C) is strategically located along the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC), and was developed on 234 hectares of wasteland to become an industrial, commercial and logistics hub.

Through the strategic location of the EWEC, Savan Park SEZ realised its potential to develop this area into a free trade industrial zone.
The Savannakhet Special Economic Zone is the first SEZ in Laos. The Savannakhet Dry Port was the first approved dry port to be acknowledged by UNESCAP.
Former President Bounnhang Vorachit signed the ratification of the Savannakhet Dry Port to comply with UNESCAP requirements on October 16, 2019.
It is located on the EWEC at a distance of 1,450 km from Vietnam, and it connects Savannakhet province of Laos to Thailand before ending at Mawlamyine in Myanmar, linking the Andaman Sea with the South China Sea.

The Savannakhet Special Economic Zone is also part of the Greater Mekong Sub-Region (GMS) development programme.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, a significant increase of 42 percent in the logistics value was added, enabling the reduction of vessel frequency, and allowing the usual operation of road freight services.
The total value of imports in 2020 was more than US$214,360,513.35, while the value of exports rose to more than US$245,640,544.16.
Imports during 2021 were worth more than US$204,005,109.02, while exports rose to US$246,437,926.71.
The value of transit cargo handled by Savannakhet Dry Port in 2020 was US$6,855,500,323, and this rose to US$9,445,539,694 last year.
