The team was welcomed upon their arrival at the Vientiane train station on Tuesday. Laos and China are building their relationship as strategic partners in many ways, including in the medical field, with China continuously providing assistance to Laos since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The “Peace Train 2022” joint emergency and rescue exercise will take place from July 25-29 in Vientiane and Vientiane province, with 149 Chinese army medics working alongside their Lao counterparts.
The theme of the “Peace Train 2022” mission is “Humanitarian medical assistance in response to typhoon damage”.
Following the exercise, the Chinese medical team will spend two days helping out at the 103 Army Hospital in Vientiane.
This is the fourth time that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has provided a medical team of this nature to assist Laos.
The two armies work together to address the threat of natural disasters, improve competency in the field of humanitarian and medical assistance, and to protect and enhance people’s lives and health.
This year’s visit by the Chinese army medics follows on from joint “Peace Train” exercises conducted by the armies of Laos and China in 2017 and 2019.
The exercise is important in strengthening the friendly relations between the two nations, and in particular between the armies of Laos and China.
