Golden Triangle SEZ eyes large-scale infrastructure development

The management of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Bokeo province is engaged in sweeping infrastructure development, with a focus on hotels, an airport, a waterside market, residential areas, and entertainment facilities.
These developments will see the zone become a glamorous and modern tourist destination.
One of the bigger developments is the luxurious Kapok Star Hotel which officially opened on Friday.

Party and State leaders take part in the opening ceremony of the 5-star Kapok Star Hotel in Bokeo province.

The opening ceremony was attended by Vice President Dr Bounthong Chitmany; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Security, General Vilay Lakhamfong; Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mrs Suanesavanh Vignaket; the Governor of Bokeo province, Dr Buakhong Nammavong; and Mr Zhao Wei, Chairman of the Administration Board of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and Chairman of the Dok Ngiew Kham Group.
The glittering Kapok Star Hotel is a notable landmark in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone.
The Deputy Governor of Bokeo province, Mr Kheuanphet Vongchanh, said the 5-star hotel is one of 13 projects endorsed by the Lao government in a revised contract signed in 2014. Construction of the hotel began in 2019.
The hotel has 515 rooms that can accommodate up to 980 guests.
The building was designed with the intention of symbolising the combined ethnic groups of Southeast Asia in a golden kapok flower pattern.
All parts of the hotel, both external and internal, have been built to a modern design and there is a full range of facilities, restaurants, entertainment, shops and rest areas, amid beautiful natural scenery.
The hotel is located in the centre of the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone on a 110,000 square metre site and cost US$200 million to build.
The Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone is managed by the Dok Ngiew Kham Group, which has concessions on 10,000 hectares of land, 3,000 hectares of which are a Special Economic Zone and 7,000 hectares are a protected area.
So far, 1,000 hectares have been developed by over 500 companies, according to zone authorities.
The site is located close to the Mekong River in the Golden Triangle area where Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet and is close to the Laos-China border.
